Rev. Bernard Akem

Born in Cameroon, West Africa, Bernard and his family moved to Minnesota where he pursued his undergraduate education in Biomedical Sciences and Marine Biology. He later got his Master of Science degree in Project Management and he currently works as an IT Project Manager for Zurich NA. Throughout his education process, Bernard has been involved in several student organizations such as the Normandale Student Senate, Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, Student Ambassador and Student Success Mentor for other students.

Bernard loves traveling, constantly learning, exercising, outdoor activities, biking, snowboarding, and dancing. Besides being an IT Project Manager, his love for connecting and interacting with people has him involved in the Minneapolis dance scene, teaching the Latin dances: Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Kizomba, and afro-beats. He has choreographed first dances for weddings as well as dance performances, and he has traveled all over the world learning and training in the different types of dances – while learning Spanish. Bernard speaks English, French, Pidgin English, some Spanish, and 4 other native Dialects from Cameroon.

Rev. Bernard is outgoing, lively, and a people person. Open-minded and excited to celebrate love in any shape or form. It is an honor to be a part of such an important day in the lives of individuals as they share their love with family and friends.
